Our Rebuilding & Remanufacturing Process
Comprehensive Remanufacture and Standard Rebuild
Birch Machinery’s Comprehensive Remanufacturing and Standard Rebuild process starts with an intensive analysis of machine systems and full disassembly. We thoroughly clean the machine and components. Our engineers conduct a complete inspection to determine level of wear and functionality. BMC then provides a written quotation detailing the scope of work.
Customers specify the machine to be either restored to its’ original OEM specifications (Rebuild) or updated to current technologies (Remanufacture).
After the project is complete, BMC tests the machine at full capacity to ensure optimum performance prior to shipment. The machine will be completely painted and safety labels and guards provided. Birch Machinery’s technicians are available to supervise onsite start up and machine operation. Full documentation of the project is provided along with BMC one year warranty.
Top Half Rebuild (Upper Half)
A Top Half Rebuild project consists of the entire linkage as well as all four tie bars and the nuts for both ends of the machine.
- The movable platen and the toggle carrier platen are also addressed.
- The tie bars are chased and inspected for any damage and cracks.
- The nut threads are chased and inspected for cracks. The mating surface where the linkage bolts is “skinned” to insure they are parallel and perpendicular.
- The closing cylinder is removed and rebuilt and tested to insure functionality.
- An option is to re-qualify the stationary platen. Customarily, stationary platens are left in position.

A Linkage Set project consists of everything between the movable platen and the toggle carrier plate, including crosshead, links, levers, bell cranks, and e-bosses.
- BMC thoroughly cleans and inspects for damage, wear and cracks.
- Provide and install new bronze bushings and alloy toggle pins.
- Hone all bores to master gages. All linkage centers are brought back to OEM specifications.
- Crosshead is re-qualified and re-bushed.
- Lubrication is repaired or replaced as needed and all lube holes are cleaned and chased.
- The linkage is then painted and shipped pursuant to customer specifications.
The “Swap Out” Program provides customers an opportunity to access BMC’s inventory of Linkage Sets. BMC can reduce downtime by beginning the rebuild program using our inventoried Linkage Set – while the customer still runs the machine and verifies dimensions.
